Is it Time to Replace Your Drywall?

Homeowners usually don't think about their drywall until it begins to malfunction. Do you know when to repair, repaint, or replace your home's drywall? Understanding when and how to replace drywall can save you time, money, and aggravation. Here are some signs it’s time to contact your local residential drywall services.

Extensive Cracks

Did you know that a misplaced seam can cause drywall cracks? Yes, a crack can be repaired, but only if it does not compromise the structural strength of the wall. Large cracks in the drywall require you to call residential drywall services to remove and replace them.

You should hire residential drywall services to remove the old drywall and replace it with a new piece. Attempting to do this without the presence of an expert will almost certainly result in additional destruction to your wall.

Water Damage

If there is water on a significant panel section, drying or repairing it is not an alternative, especially if the water damage is not seen immediately. The drywall is made of materials that are all highly absorbent. If exposed to water, it will eventually turn back into a paste. Moisture lubricates and weakens drywall after only a few days of exposure. Water adversely affects the wall's structural strength. If you notice discoloration, frothing, or softer-looking areas, this indicates extensive water damage.

Large or Numerous Holes

A small hole caused by banging a doorknob against a wall, or a mouse hole, should not be a problem. You can patch those up without worrying about the wall's condition. Larger holes, on the other hand, pose a more significant challenge. They have the potential to weaken the wall itself. Large holes in the wall's structure make it vulnerable to forces acting on it. It would help if you replaced larger holes in the drywall.

Popping Nails

Nails can break through drywall for a variety of reasons. The house may be settled, causing the nails to shift, or they may not be appropriately attached to joints or studs. Furthermore, the wood used to construct the house may be damp, and as it dries, the studs may start to shift or turn. If you have popping nails, you should have them pulled out of the wall and have them substituted with drywall bolts.

When problems spread to multiple areas of a wall or involve water damage, it's time to call the residential drywall services to replace the drywall. Contact us today if you are in need of new drywall.
