The Risks of Not Keeping Your Drywall Maintained

Drywall is something that most homeowners don't think about, and many don't realize that it needs to be maintained. If you haven't had your drywall inspected and maintained this year, here are some reasons you'll want to call a drywall service sooner rather than later.

1. Your Drywall Can Wear Down

Unlike diamonds, drywall isn't forever, and over time it can begin to wear down. As an example, if mice make their way into your home, they can damage your drywall as they make their homes inside it. Gradually this damage can spread as the mice continue to build their nests. Similarly, termites and ants can also cause damage to drywall with their nesting, as while the initial damage is small, it can quickly get out of hand. Because of things like this, it is recommended that you have a drywall service inspect your walls once every year if they are five to ten years old.

2. Moisture and Rot

Moisture can be one of the worst things for drywall and a moisture reading of over 17% means that the wall is unsalvagable and cannot be used. Even small amounts of water from a tiny leak can cause immense damage if not fixed quickly, and this moisture can lead to rot spreading throughout your wall. If your walls have experienced any moisture, you will need an inspection by a drywall service to know exactly what the damage is.

3. Mold Growth

Lastly, mold and mildew can be a problem that many homeowners have to deal with, and while they may not seem like huge issues at first, they can create a lot of problems that won't be tolerable for long. Both mold and mildew can trigger allergic reactions, and those with asthma can experience worsening symptoms. Even those not struggling with health issues aren't immune, as nausea, trouble breathing, and even death can occur in severe infestations. If you notice mold and mildew in your home, you don't want to take chances, and having your drywall professional inspected can let you know just how great the damage is and what you need to do to make your home safe again.

If your home's drywall is between five and 10 years old or older, and you haven't had it inspected this year, call a drywall service to ensure that there aren't any potentially dangerous issues lurking where you can't see them.
